China Tourist Visa from India: 2026 Application Guide

Who this India application route is for

This guide covers an ordinary-passport applicant applying in India for an L tourist visa through the Chinese Visa Application Service Centre. The centre accepts Indian citizens and other nationals staying in India with appropriate legal status. Diplomatic and official passport cases follow a different route. The consular district also matters: the current New Delhi service-area notice directs residents of Maharashtra and Karnataka to Mumbai, and residents of Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh and West Bengal to Kolkata.

An L visa is for tourism. If the real purpose is business, work, study, journalism, family reunion or medical treatment, use the category that matches that activity. Choosing tourism because its checklist appears easier can make the form, invitation, bank evidence and itinerary contradict one another.

Apply in the centre that serves the lawful residence and recheck its own notices. New Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata can publish different logistics, holidays, fees or submission details. This page uses the New Delhi centre's current 2026 process as the main operational reference and clearly labels information that must be checked locally.

Complete the online review before visiting the centre

New Delhi's notice says applicants must create or sign in to an account on the Visa for China site, complete the form and upload the required documents. Check the account and email for review messages. Correct or supplement only what the official review asks for, and keep the final form consistent with the passport and bookings.

Do not take the passport to the centre merely because the form was submitted. The current process says to wait until the status is Online Review Completed and a confirmation email has arrived. That phrase means the online document review has reached the stage where physical submission can proceed. It does not mean that a visa has been approved or placed in the passport.

Print or save the Visa Application Certificate attached to the approval email and note the deadline. The New Delhi Step 2 notice says the applicant must submit to the centre within 15 days of receiving the confirmation letter. If the deadline, centre or category is unclear, contact the centre before traveling.

Build the tourist document pack

Use the current L-category material list shown after you choose the centre and category. At minimum, prepare the original passport, current compliant photograph if requested, application certificate, itinerary evidence and any originals requested during online review. The centre warns that a passport with less than six months of validity creates refusal or entry risk. The current FAQ specifies a recent color photo, 48 by 33 millimetres, taken within six months and showing the current appearance.

New Delhi's 10 April 2026 notice adds a financial requirement for tourist applicants: personal savings-bank statements for the latest three months showing a minimum consistent monthly balance of INR 1 lakh, or a similar personal deposit certificate made at least three months before the application. For a minor or another special case using a parent or guardian's account, it asks for the account statement and a signed authorization letter from the account holder.

Do not turn that notice into a universal India rule without checking the receiving centre on the day you apply. Keep statements complete and clear; do not edit balances or omit pages. Make the itinerary credible and proportional to the applicant's circumstances. A booking created solely to satisfy the form can become contradictory evidence if the actual trip differs.

Submit the passport after online review

The New Delhi FAQ says the appointment requirement has been removed and applicants can submit on a working day within the due time. The Step 2 notice calls the visit No Appointment Required. That does not remove the online-review prerequisite, deadline or service hours. Check the centre's live holiday and opening notice before traveling.

Bring the Visa Application Certificate, original passport, a fresh photo if the upload was judged non-compliant, and any original kinship, property or barcoded invitation document requested. Other categories have interview and document requirements that do not apply to a routine L application. Staff can still request additional material in an individual case.

The Step 2 notice says the service fee is paid online before submission and the visa fee is paid at the centre using cash or demand draft. The current fee page also lists cash and demand draft. Preserve both receipts and the original pick-up form. Do not pay an individual, scan a personal QR code or buy an optional VIP service because someone says it improves approval odds.

Read status and timing without inventing an approval

Online Review Completed confirms readiness for the physical-submission stage. It does not confirm visa issuance. A courier or collection status can confirm that a passport is moving or ready for pickup, but it also does not reveal the decision. The only reliable result is the passport and visa returned by the issuing authority.

The New Delhi service-options page updated 28 August 2026 says regular service is usually six working days and express service usually four working days, with Embassy approval required for express and some applications taking longer. The centre's Step 3 notice uses the same expected collection days. Count from physical submission, not from first creating the online form, and add holidays and document-review time.

Do not buy inflexible travel because the normal clock looks short. Apply with margin, but not so early that the issued visa validity becomes a problem. The centre FAQ recommends roughly one month before intended entry and not earlier than three months. An urgent passport withdrawal can require the application to be withdrawn and is not an expedited approval route.

Collect and inspect the passport before travel

Collect during the current opening hours with the original pick-up form or use the return method the centre has formally accepted. Do not rely on a screenshot of an expected collection date. If another person will collect, confirm the authorization requirement directly; do not assume possession of the receipt is sufficient.

Inspect the visa immediately: name, passport number, category, number of entries, Enter Before date and Duration of Each Stay. These fields answer different questions. A one-entry L visa cannot be treated as multiple entry, and the validity window is not the same as the number of days allowed after entry. Contact the centre before departure if any field appears wrong.

Carry the itinerary and accommodation evidence used for the application. Issuance does not guarantee border admission, and a changed trip must still fit the visa purpose. If the visa is not issued, use the formal explanation or contact route available from the centre. Do not pay an intermediary claiming it can reverse a consular decision.
